I don't think I'm interesting enough for my own autobiography, really. Instead, content explanation:
Half of my posts are general statements and observations about, broadly, stuff that I am doing. If I lapse into monologues about scientific or academic stuff, I can go on for pages. It can be pretty dry.
Half of my posts are essay-style pieces about things that interest me. Mostly, this stuff is political in nature, although sometimes I will try to sound educated about other things, such as religion or economics. (Aren't those both folded into politics these days anyhow? What the hell isn't folded into politics?)
Half my posts are blurb-style media reviews. I consume an asinine amount of media in a given day, mostly because silence drives me insane and I feel unproductive if I am not looking at something in a sufficiently engaged manner.
Half my posts are long-form essays about nothing. If I fail at being a scientist, a politician, a musician, and a novelist--in that order, not simultaneously, let's be realistic--I'd like to try being an essayist. This is because I am fascinated by what Garrison Keillor does with words. Go figure.
Finally, I am engaged in this endless project to sort out roughly three or four years of handwritten notes, saved e-mail exchanges, and short works that at present only exist in hard copy. A lot of this stuff comes out of my fucktard period, which is really good for self-satire. Back in the fall of 2004, when I started posting again, it was my plan to try to sort through all of this in a public fashion, and then rearrange it into the raw material for the last draft of my never-ending novel project. About two months into that, I realized that it was kind of egomasturbatory, and I already knew where I wanted to go; I'm going there right now. I'm still trying to sort out and archive all that shit, though, so I will sometimes toss pieces of it up if it seems sort of interesting.
And don't fuck with me about the nonsensical fractioning of the journal content. I got tired of trying to write clever segues between each description, so I just kept saying "half my posts." I do understand how math works.
I'm actually a relatively engaging person. It just doesn't come across well in condensed text. Read entries and you'll figure it out.
